Filmfest DC: Now Playing

The 24th Annual Washington, DC International Film Festival (Filmfest DC) continues through April 25, bringing the best in new international cinema to the nation’s capital. Filmfest DC features over 80 films from around the world including World Premieres, DC Premieres, Official Foreign Language Film Oscar® Selections and international headliners and award winners. The festival also boasts over 20 international guests set to present and discuss their films including well-known directors and producers.

Since its inception in 1987, Filmfest DC has become one of Washington’s major cultural events, enhancing the artistic profile of the nation’s capital both domestically and internationally. Filmfest DC is a District-wide event, bringing together the city’s major cultural institutions in a spirit of cooperation and celebration.

“Over the years, Filmfest DC has introduced hundreds of international films to the District of Columbia and scores of filmmakers have shared their insights with us. This year, you will find many of our films are light-hearted and humorous, which is much needed in these difficult times,” said Festival Director Tony Gittens.

Each year, Filmfest DC focuses on cinema from a particular region in addition to programming various series of films with a similar theme. For 2010, Filmfest DC has two regional areas of focus: Bel Cinema!, a selection of new Italian films; and The New Romanian Wave, a program of cutting edge work from one of the hottest spots on the international cinema scene. On the series front, the popular World Views and Global Rhythms series are back once again. In addition, Filmfest DC is proud to announce its new series, Justice Matters, a selection of features and documentaries exploring issues of social justice. A panel discussion entitled, “Deepening the Impact of Social Justice” follows two of the films.
